John G. Rogers, Jr. Obituary

John G. Rogers, Jr., 77, of Pleasant Mount, passed into eternal sleep on Wednesday December 11th with his loving wife, Judith Kay Friedel Rogers, by his side.

Born in Upper Darby, PA, he was the son of the late John G. Rogers, Sr. and Theresa Helen Walizer Rogers.  John’s family relocated to Mays Landing in South Jersey, where John attended school, graduating from Oakcrest High School in 1965.  After graduation, he joined the US Navy, serving on the USS Forrest Royal as a boiler technician during the Vietnam War.  Upon returning home from the war, he was employed at the Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point, NJ.  He then joined Atlantic Electric/Connectiv in Beasley’s Point, NJ, where he worked as a turbine operator for 24 years.  In 2001 John and Judi moved to Pleasant Mount, PA to retire, where they refurbished a country house into a warm and comfortable homestead.  John and Judi had a happy and active life together, traveling, camping, dancing, kayaking, and attending the theater and ballgames.  John especially enjoyed doing complicated 1,000 piece puzzles, reading, gardening, and working in his woodshop.  He was an exceptional man who will be sorely missed by his family and many wonderful neighbors and friends.  He loved his cats, Miss Kitty and Old Puss.

John gave a hell of a fight against Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) and other afflictions attributed to Agent Orange during his military service.

The family would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks to every person from Home Healthcare Professionals and Hospice for their kindness, professionalism, and loving care, especially Nurse Judy Longo and social worker Tim Laffenberg; they are truly exceptional people.

John was a kind and loving father to his children, daughter: Jennifer Rogers; son: John Rogers; stepson: Tom Ross; and grandson: Nicholas Hines.  He was an exceptional husband to his wife Judi, who was the love of his life.

He was also preceded in death by a younger brother, Thomas Rogers.

The funeral will be Thursday December 19th, with celebration of life services at 4pm in the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.  The family will receive friends from 3pm until service time.
