John H. “Jack” Byrnes, 80, of Carbondale, died Tuesday, February 1st at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. He was the husband of the former Sharon Hobbs.; the couple were married for 53 years.
Born in Orange, NJ, he was the only son of the late John and Loretta Foran Byrnes. He grew up in Morris Plains and Morris Twp., NJ. He was a 1959 graduate of Morristown High School. He was a United States Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Jersey Central Power and Light Company.
In addition to his wife, also surviving are two daughters: Shannon Cheripka and husband Dennis, Powder Springs, GA; Meghan Higdon and husband Guy, Carbondale; five grandchildren: Guy, Mason, and Ellie Higdon and Isabelle and Paige Cheripka; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Sunday, February 6th with a blessing service at 4 pm in the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 pm.
