Josephine Gill Obituary

Josephine L. “Tootsie” Gill, 90, of Clifford Twp., and formerly of Carbondale, died Monday August 11th after an illness.  She was the widow of Paul G. Gill, who died August 3, 2024.

Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Joseph and Louise Cerra Craparo, she was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale.  She was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Class of 1952, Carbondale.  Early in her career, she was employed as a bookkeeper for the Paula Lee Dress Factory, Carbondale.  She was also a loving homemaker who enjoyed cooking Italian dishes for her family, especially her meatballs, stuffed artichokes, and eggplant parmesan.


The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Wayne Woodlands Manor as well as Dr. David Tomazic for their professional and compassionate care of Tootsie.  The family would also like to give a special thank you to Joe and Mary Ellen Carachilo and Donna Bronson for their caring assistance over the years.


Surviving are two daughters: Theresa Barna and husband Nicholas Barna, MD, Mountaintop; Nancy Gill, Clifford Twp.; two grandchildren: Nicholas J. Barna, II, MD and Dr. Esther Yoon, MD; Laura E. Barna, MD and William E. Loughney, IV, MD; a grand-dog: Daisy; two sisters-in-law: Shirley Gill; and Joan Craparo; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.


She was also preceded in death by a brother: Charles Craparo; a brother-in-law: Thomas “Barry”Gill; a sister-in-law: Anita Gill Roche; and a niece: Shannon Gill.


The funeral will be Thursday, August 14th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale.  Interment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.  Friends may call at the church Thursday from 9:30 am until mass time.  Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.
