Julia Rose Murnin, 88, of Vandling, died Tuesday May 21st at Elan Skilled Nursing Center, Scranton. She was the widow of Michael J. Murnin, Sr., who died January 13, 2021.
Born in Vandling, daughter of the late Stanley and Julia Fritz Vavro, she was a member of Ascension Parish, Forest City. She was a graduate of Vandling High School, where she was class president. Prior to retirement, she was employed at the Pan-Gee Dress Factory, Vandling. She had also been previously employed at Gentex Corp, Simpson and the EJ Shoe Factory, Forest City. Julia enjoyed fishing and camping with her late husband and family; she was an avid bowler, a talented seamstress, enjoyed long walks, traveling, puzzles and cards. She loved cooking and baking for holidays and being surrounded by her family and friends.
Surviving are her children: Dr. Patrick Murnin and wife Cheryl Lynn; Dr. Mark Murnin and wife Kim; Robert Murnin and wife Holly; a daughter-in-law: Kathleen Murnin; 8 grandchildren: Michael, III; Jennifer and husband Tom Carr; Patrick; Christopher; Marissa; Matthew; Jessica; and Timothy; two great grandchildren: Mason and Remi Anne; a sister: Rose Filipski; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son Michael J. Murnin, Jr.; three sisters: Ann Tutics; Estella Nelson; Rita Jeglinski; and three brothers: Joseph, Stanley, and Frank Vavro.
The funeral will be Tuesday May 28th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Joseph’s Church, Delaware St., Forest City. Interment, Saint Agnes Cemetery, Forest City. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 am until mass time. Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
