Lenda Turner, 84, of Carbondale, died Sunday August 27th at the Carbondale Nursing Center. She was the widow of Kenneth Turner, who died May 20, 2014.
Born in Oneonta, NY, daughter of the late Leonard Jason and Janet Hughes Stanton, she was a graduate of Oneonta High School. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for 25 years at the former Carbondale General Hospital, and for another 10 years at the former Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale, first as an administrative assistant until retiring as the Director of Patient Financial Services. Lenda was a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the American College of Healthcare Executives. She was also very active in the community, serving on the Board of Directors of the Greater Carbondale YMCA, the Carbondale Christmas Light Committee; and as the Chairwoman of the Carbondale Housing Authority. She was also involved with the refurbishment of the gazebo at McCawley Park along with the Shade Tree Commission. Lenda was an avid New York Yankees fan.
Surviving are her three children: Kelly Jordan and husband Joseph, Carbondale; Stacy Knowles and husband John, Scranton; Clay Turner, Carbondale; five grandchildren: Kyle Knowles and wife Christy; Collin Knowles and wife Jenny; Jonathan Knowles and fiancée Bridget O’Hagan; Cory Jordan; Samantha Pope and husband Mitchell; and four great grandchildren: Kaylee Knowles; Maggie Knowles; Abigail Knowles; and Nash Pope; two brothers: William Stanton and wife Maryann, Margaretville, NY; Scott Stanton, Oneonta; a sister: Alice Stanton, Goodyear Lake, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister: Nancy Chicorelli.
As per her request, private funeral services were held. Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale.
