Leroy Miley Obituary

Leroy A. Miley, 78, of Carbondale, died Friday May 19th at Advent Health Tampa, FL.  He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Mannion; the couple had been married for 56 years.

Born in New York City, son of Dorothy L. Timmermans Miley, Carbondale, and the late Arthur L. Miley, he was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  He was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Class of 1962, Carbondale, and was always involved in the planning of his class’s reunions.  Roy was a veteran of the United States Army.  After leaving the service, his first job was at Capital Records as a Computer Programmer Manager, and he later retired as a Computer Programmer for Tri-County Human Services, Carbondale.  Together with his wife Ruth, the couple also ran a ceramics business in Carbondale for ten years.  Roy was an avid fan of music.  He sang in the Scranton Barbershop Chorus and was a fan of the University of Pittsburgh Varsity Marching Band and the Penn State Blue Band; he was a member of the Society for the Preservation of BarberShop Quartet Singing in the United States.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He loved to travel, especially when it was to visit his grandchildren.  Roy enjoyed playing golf with his friends and sons.  He had a passion for planting flowers in his yard each spring and growing vegetables each summer.  Roy loved serving his county and was a devoted patriot to our wonderful nation.  As a devout Catholic, he said the rosary daily.  He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, watching them play every chance he got; he especially enjoyed going to watch them play in New York with his best friend, Chauncey Zazzera.

In addition to his mother Dorothy and wife Ruth, also surviving are four children: Arthur Miley, State College; Jeffrey Miley and wife Kristian and their children Ryan and Aidan, all of Land O’Lakes, FL; Maribeth Miley and fiancé Carl Mignano, Blakely; Wesley Miley and wife Renee and their children: Connor and Catherine, Big Flats, NY; a brother: Raymond E.
