Lillian Piatt Obituary

Lillian “Aunt Lil” Malinchak Piatt, 96, of Crystal Lake, passed into the arms of Jesus on Friday, April 9th at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.  She was the widow of William Piatt, who died in 1981.

Born at Crystal Lake, daughter of the late Louis and Tessie Tellip Malinchak, she was a member of Saint John Vianney Parish, Royal.  She was educated in Fell Township Schools.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a seamstress in the local garment industry.  She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.

Aunt Lil was a devout Christian who kept everyone she met close to her heart and on her prayer list.  She was the gold standard Matriarch, teaching multiple generations how to cook, garden, and above all else, love unconditionally. Her compassion for people was unsurpassed as was her love for her many nieces and nephews.

An avid supporter of the Pro-Life Movement, “Aunt Lil” spent her time baking Cheesecakes and running the “Cheesecake Stand” at annual local town picnics.  She did not celebrate Mother’s Day in a traditional way, instead she wanted to spend her day preparing and selling carnations at Mother’s Day Masses all to benefit her local Pro-Life Chapter.  Her passion for life and everything around her was strongly instilled in her family but especially in her Grandchildren who will continue her mission in her stead.

Surviving are a son: William Piatt and wife Michele, Crystal Lake; a daughter: Janie Fredmonski and husband Michael, Crystal Lake; four grandchildren: Paul Salvatore and wife Jennifer, Crystal Lake; Chrissy Richards, Throop; Dr. Nicole Apple and husband Dr. Andrew Pinehurst, NC; Danielle Piatt Daniel and husband Thomas, Charleston, SC; five great grandchildren: Paul Salvatore, Jr.; Gavin and Mackenzie Richards; and Madison and Amelia Apple; a sister: Josephine Hameza, RD1 Jermyn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by seven brothers: Frank, John, Michael, Stephen, Edward, Joseph, and Louis Malinchak; and two sisters: Anna Garbera and Mary Cosklo.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bekele and wonderful staff, the staff of Regional Hospital, Father Kirwin and Sue McCoy who brought her communion, and Joan Morgan her nightly aide.

The funeral will be Tuesday, April 13th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Pius X Church, Royal.  Interment will follow in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.  All those attending the funeral Tuesday are asked to go directly to the church.

Friends may attend a “walk-through” viewing Monday, from 4 to 7 pm at the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks are required, and social distancing will be observed in both the funeral home and the church.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, Inc. 4800 Jonestown Rd. Ste. 102. Harrisburg, PA 17109.
