Lucille Ann Hans

Lucille Ann Hans, 85, of Forest City, died Sunday, June 28th, at Forest City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years, Walter Hans, who died on July 27, 2001. She was a member of Ascension Parish, Forest City.

Born and raised in Forest City, Lucille was the daughter of the late Valentine and Frances Tedesco Swegel. Affectionately known as “Luc,” she grew up in the area known as “Cowtown” as one of nine children and the youngest of seven girls. She shared a special bond with her sisters, who were known to be inseparable. As a teenager, Lucille was known as the “rebel” of the siblings. One of her favorite places to spend time was the Sugar Bowl, the local soda shop, where everyone knew she was the “owner” of the first booth.

 
She graduated from Forest City High School and, in 1959, enlisted in the U.S. Army, where she served as a nurse in the Women’s Army Corps. While stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, she met her husband, Walter. Following her discharge from the Army, the couple briefly lived in Charleroi before returning to Forest City, where they began their life together and raised their family.

Lucille worked her entire career in Forest City, where she was employed by several local businesses, including Nudelman’s Clothing Store, Kelly’s Pharmacy, and Red Cross Pharmacy.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Lucille took great pride in her family and especially cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren, whom she loved immensely. She found great joy in cooking for those she loved, enjoyed trips to the casino and playing cards with family, and was an avid reader, often finishing multiple books in a week.  

She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Cimoch, and her husband, Edward, Vandling; her son, Jason Hans, and his wife, Therese, Binghamton; five grandchildren, Sebastian and Sabrina Cimoch, and Gabriella, Ruby, and Olivia Hans; her sister, Frances Beers; her brother, James Swegel, and his wife, Roseann; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by six siblings, Valentine Swegel Jr., Marie Leonard, Angie Svecz, Rose Dunn, Annie Lang, and Theresa Jones.

The funeral will be Monday, July 6 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Joseph’s Church, Delaware Street, Forest City.  Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Forest City. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 am until mass time.  Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
