Lucille C. Toolan

February 15, 2022

Lucille C. Toolan, 89, of Carbondale, died Tuesday, February 15th at home surrounded by family. She was the widow of Robert Patrick Toolan, who died December 23, 2014.

Born in Carbondale, the daughter of the late Peter and Lucille Healey Cummings, she was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. She was a 1950 graduate of Saint Rose High School, Carbondale. Lucille was employed as an operator for the Bell Telephone Company and later as a clerk for JCPenney Department Store in Carbondale before becoming a full-time mom and homemaker.

Her world revolved around her family and she relished in doting on her grandsons. Lucille loved to be outdoors and especially delighted in days spent at Elk Lake or Newton Lake. Her favorite pastimes were beach vacations, shopping (particularly at Boscov’s), attending musicals and concerts and puttering about her home. Animal rescue was near and dear to her heart. She took in numerous pets throughout her life and was a supporter of ASPCA and Humane Society of America.

Lucille’s smile and warm demeanor lit up a room making everyone who met her an instant friend. She was easygoing, thoughtful and fun-loving.

Surviving are a son: Tim Toolan and wife Kristina, Greenfield Twp.; a daughter: Barbara Toolan, Carbondale; two grandsons: Joshua and Noah Toolan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter: Hannah Kathryn Toolan; and a brother: Harold Cummings.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all of Lucille’s caregivers. Special thanks to close family friend Sondra Murphy for her help and support over the past year.

The funeral will be Saturday, February 19th from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.  Friends may call Friday, from 4 to 6 pm.
