Marie G. Cross

Marie G. Cross, 96, of Bradenton, FL went to her heavenly home on Wednesday May 24th.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Robert L. Cross in 2006.

Marie was born in 1926 in Gibson Township, PA.  She was the daughter of the late Evan Merritt and Gladys May Cole Foster of Union Dale, PA.  Marie was a registered nurse, graduating in 1948 from the Robert Packer School of Nursing, U.S.  Cadet Nursing Corp.  She started her nursing career at the Carbondale General Hospital.  While raising a family, she worked in home health as a visiting nurse.  She was generous with her nursing skills helping out in the community when requested. She returned to Carbondale General Hospital to finish her career.  She was best known for her skilled, yet gentle touch, and her understanding and compassionate manner.

Marie was a member of the Union Dale Methodist Church, the Phoenix Club of Union Dale and a Friend of the First Presbyterian Church, Bradenton, FL.  She was also an avid reader, quilt maker, and embroiderer.  She dearly loved and was loved by her family and friends.

She is survived by a son, Rennie Cross (Nan) and two daughters, Diane Sullivan (Joseph) and Sandra Garrison (Ralph), 6 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald Foster (Becky) and Philip Foster (Margaret).

The family will receive friends on Tuesday June 6th from 10 to 11 am at the Union Dale Presbyterian Church with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 11 am.  Interment services will immediately follow the Celebration of Life at the Union Dale Cemetery.  Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
