Marie A. Zaccone, 71, of Carbondale, died Wednesday October 2nd at home following an illness. She was the wife of Joseph Zaccone; the couple would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 19th.
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Richard P. and Margaret Carroll Lynch, she was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Carbondale. She was a graduate of Saint Rose High School, Class of 1970; she received her Bachelor’s Degree in English from Marywood University in 1974, and later received her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Southern Mississippi University. Marie was a fixture at the Carbondale Public Library, beginning her career in 1969, and retiring in 2020 as Library Director. She was an avid reader and member of several book clubs at the library. Marie loved her family, especially her grandchildren; she also had a fondness for sweets.
The family would like to thank Dr. Frank Moro and Dr. Neda Danniel and their staffs, as well as the nurses and staff at Hematology & Oncology Associates of NEPA for their compassionate care.
Also surviving are her three children: Maura Mark, Carbondale; Frank Zaccone and wife Nicole, Carbondale; Joana Wells, King George, VA; eight grandchildren: Joe, Gia, and Ava Mark; Madelena, Nicholas, and Margaret Zaccone; Bryan and Zac Wells; and several cousins from the Durkin, Carroll, and O’Malley families.
She was also preceded in death by an infant brother: Richard; and a son-in-law: Brian Wells.
The funeral will be Monday, October 7th, from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Friends may call Sunday, from 3 to 6 pm.
