Mary Chervanka Obituary

Mary P. Chervanka, 78, of Carbondale, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 11th.  She was the widow of the late Russell J. Chervanka, who died in 2003.

Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Mullen Teeple, she was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Carbondale.  She was a graduate of Saint Rose High School, Carbondale.  Prior to retirement, she was employed as a certified Nurse’s Aide-Patient Tech for the former Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale.  Mary was a loving mom, gram, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.  She took great pride in being the oldest cousin on both sides of the family, and her many first cousins affirmed that honor!  She was a kind, generous, witty, smart, and talented lady who enjoyed a cigarette, a good Hallmark movie, and especially spending time with her family and friends.  Mary was also an exceptionally fine cook and baker.

The family would like to thank the hospital and ICU staff of Geisinger CMC and the staff at Wayne Woodlands Manor for the compassionate care given to Mary.

Surviving are her son: John M. Chervanka and wife Lisa Phillips-Chervanka, Carbondale Twp.; a daughter: Michelle T. Barnard, Carbondale Twp.; four grandchildren: Paige Cleveland and husband Cole; Emily Chervanka and fiancé Kenny Huber; Drew Chervanka, USAF; and Cole Chervanka; two great grandchildren: Beckham and Blaire Cleveland; a brother: Joseph A. Teeple, Carbondale; a sister: Jane A. Teeple, Carbondale; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.  Also surviving are her former son-in-law: Charles Barnard; close friend: Agnes Murray; and her many friends and neighbors at 54 Lincoln Avenue.

The funeral will be Friday, October 17th with graveside services at 11:30 am at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.  Friends may call Thursday, from 3 to 7 pm at the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.   All those attending the funeral Friday are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
