Mary Fryer, known to many as Aunt Mary, 98, of Carbondale, passed away peacefully on Sunday September 21st surrounded by friends and family.
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late John and Helen Quinn Fryer, she was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Carbondale. She was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at the McGovern Insurance Agency, Carbondale. Mary enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Women’s League at Valley Lanes; she also enjoyed playing golf in the Women’s League at Skyline Golf Course. She was an active member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Carbondale. For many years, Mary worked the bingo on Wednesday nights at St. Rose Church. She attended daily mass, followed by breakfast at Bob McDonnell’s Restaurant, where she would meet friends and make many new ones. She enjoyed spending summers planting flowers and riding her lawnmower at her cottage at Newton Lake.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mulloth, all of her caregivers for the last 1 ½ years, the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart, and the Bikers who would visit and bring her a blueberry pancake every Wednesday morning.
Surviving are two sisters: Helen Campbell, Live Oak, FL; and Frances Erzen, Carbondale. She was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters: Lillian Corcoran of Montvale, NJ; and Jean Ewing, of Waukegan, IL.
The funeral will be Saturday, September 27th, from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Friends may call Friday, from 4 to 7 pm.
