Mary G. McMahon, 84, of Carbondale died Friday February 28th at the Carbondale Nursing Center.
Born in Waymart, daughter of the late Eugene and Mary Loftus McMahon, she was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Carbondale. Mary was educated in the Carbondale schools and attained her nursing training at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Lackawanna, New York. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, the Gino-Merli Veterans Center and the Jewish Home in Scranton.
Mary was an avid pet owner and dog mom to “Huggy Bear” and “Seamus” who she adored and pampered. She had a long friendship with her great neighbors Sharon and Joe Bianco and cherished times with them as she was treated as a member of their family. Mary loved spending time with her extended family and friends and frequently traveled to Connecticut, Florida, and Delaware. She was a loyal friend and companion and had a most outgoing manner. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her relatives and friends. The family is grateful for the compassionate care provided to Mary by Traditional Home Health and Hospice.
Mary is survived by many cousins including her caretakers: Harry Coleman and wife Linda, Carbondale; Ann Farrell and husband Tom, Sarasota, FL; Ellen Hamilton and husband Michael, Wilmington, DE; Robert Coleman and wife Judy, West Hartford, CT; John Coleman and wife Ada, Pasadena, CA; Kathy O’Brien and husband Kevin, Ocean City, NJ; and Mary Ellen Sharkey and husband Jim, Wilmington, DE.
The funeral will be Saturday, April 5th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment, Keen Cemetery, Waymart. Friends may call Saturday at the church from 9 am until mass time. Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale.
