Maureen Conigliaro Obituary

Maureen Gilroy Conigliaro, 66, of Greenfield Twp., passed away peacefully at home on Friday August 12th surrounded by her family after a courageous three year battle with cancer.  She is survived by her husband, Joseph Conigliaro; the couple was married in March 2009.

Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Paul and Edna Murphy Gilroy, she was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  She was a graduate of Saint Rose High School, Carbondale, Class of 1974.  During her career, Maureen worked at several local restaurants, but the job she loved for 32 years was at the Elkview Country Club, where she was head waitress and restaurant manager.  “Reenie” or “Mo”, which were the names that her friends and family would call her, was one tough Irish girl, who fought so bravely against her illness.  She never once complained or wanted to be felt sorry for; she just wanted to get better so that she could return to the life she loved and the job she loved at the Elkview Country Club.  She truly loved, with all of her heart, all of the members and customers there, especially her girls (as she would call them); she truly was the “Queen of Elkview”.

Maureen loved to cook for her family everyday and especially on holidays.  She loved to travel; she had many wonderful trips to Mexico and most of the Caribbean with her husband Joe and close friends, who she considered family as well.   She loved her dogs, Murphy and Harley, who she spoiled at every meal.  She always looked forward to holidays and gatherings with family and friends.  For anyone who knew her, she is truly unforgettable.

The family would like to thank all of Maureen’s medical team for the wonderful care given to her, especially Dr. Matthew Haley, all of the doctors and nurses at Geisinger CMC, Dr. Jessica Bauman at Fox Chase, Philadelphia; and Dr. Christopher Peters and NROC Radiology, Dunmore.  The family would also like to give a special thank you to the caring nurses and staff of Allied Hospice.

Also surviving are two sons: David Greene and wife Trish, Houston, TX; Daniel Greene and wife Heather, Carbondale; a daughter: Tessa Greene, Greenfield Twp.; a step-son: Michael Conigliaro, Roaring Brook Twp.; three sisters: Susan Williams and husband Kenny, Waymart; Anne Burnett and husband John, Colorado Springs, CO; Alice Vitovsky and husband John , Waymart; a brother: Frank Gilroy, Clifford; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and her dogs: Murphy and Harley.

She was also preceded in death by a son: Zachary Greene; three brothers: Michael Gilroy; and twins Paul and Joseph Gilroy; and a step-son: William Conigliaro.

The funeral will be Wednesday August 17th, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am in Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  Interment, Saint Agnes Cemetery, Forest City.  Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm at the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, and on Wednesday morning at the church, from 10:30 am until mass time.
