It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Michael Angelo Lapera, 40, of Forest City, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 27, 2026. Though his time here was far too short, the love, laughter, and kindness he shared with others will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew him.
Mike had a heart of gold and a laugh that was larger than life — the kind of laugh that could instantly fill a room and make everyone around him smile. He would do absolutely anything for anyone, never hesitating to lend a hand, offer support, or simply show up when someone needed him most. His kindness was genuine, quiet, and unwavering.
With the endless love, encouragement, and support of his parents, Mike continued to push forward through every obstacle life placed in front of him. Even during the hardest moments, when the weight of life became overwhelming, he never stopped trying, never stopped moving forward, and never gave up. Above all else, his mother was his very best friend. Their bond was one built on unconditional love, loyalty, and understanding, and it remained one of the most important parts of his life.
As the middle brother, Mike was the perfect blend of the personalities that surrounded him — balancing the responsibility of his older brother with the rebellious spirit of his younger brother. Together, the three shared a lifetime of memories that became the stories only brothers could truly understand and cherish. From pretending to be the 3 Ninjas, practicing wrestling moves in the living room, getting dragged along to places that were far beyond his comfort zone, to being the target of endless silly jokes and teasing that he somehow always laughed along with — those moments became some of the most treasured parts of life. Their bond was built on laughter, loyalty, and the kind of love that only siblings can share.
He was the kind of uncle every child dreams of having — the fun uncle and truly a kid at heart. He played with the kids as if he were one of them—carefree, silly, and fully present in every moment. Whether he was playing pretend, making everyone laugh without even trying, or creating memories through simple moments, he brought joy in the most natural way.
Despite how funny and unforgettable he was, Mike never wanted to be the center of attention. He preferred to stay under the radar, finding comfort in simply being around the people he loved most. Yet somehow, without ever seeking the spotlight, he became someone impossible to forget.
Though he may not have fully realized it himself, Mike was deeply loved by so many people. He often did not see in himself what everyone else saw so clearly — a person with an incredible heart, a loyal soul, and a presence that brought comfort, laughter, and light into the lives of others. The impact he made on those around him was far greater than he ever knew.
His absence leaves an unimaginable void, but his love, humor, resilience, and the countless memories he created will continue to live on through his family and friends forever.
Mike will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
