Patrick “Pat” McCarthy, 68, of Childs, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 28th. To know Pat was to love him and laugh with him, and he will be deeply missed by his wife, family, and great many friends. His big personality and his even bigger heart were truly one of a kind.
Born in Carbondale, son of the late T.D. and Jean Martin McCarthy, Pat married Mary Catherine “Kay” Tuzze in June of 1980, and they enjoyed over 43 years of marriage together. Pat and Kay shared many adventures together and were always the best hosts to all of their loved ones. Pat and Kay share two sons, Brian and Kevin, whom Pat could not have been prouder of. He was not only an amazing father to his sons, but their buddy as well.
Pat was a graduate of Valley View High School and McKim Technical Institute. Pat was a master craftsman, and he owned and operated McCarthy Brothers Mechanical for over 40 years. He was well-known in the industry and his work can be found throughout all of Northeastern PA. In his recent retirement, Pat was enjoying his hobbies more than ever. He most especially loved snowmobiling in New York and Canada with his friends and son, Brian, camping all over the east coast with his wife, and son, Kevin, and getting out fishing or going for a ride on his motorcycle whenever he could.
Pat leaves behind his wife: Kay, of Childs; two sons: Brian and his partner Alicia Bognatz, of Union Dale; son, Kevin, of Childs, PA; sister, Nancy Redetzky and husband Eric, of Lady Lake, FL; a brother: Thomas McCarthy and wife, Millie of Waymart; and many beloved cousins and close family members.
The funeral will be Friday, September 1st with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary Parish, 624 Madison Ave., Jermyn. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Mayfield. Friends may call at the church on Friday morning from 9 am until mass time.
