Patrick “Skip” Race, 80, of Carbondale, passed peacefully into God’s arms on Friday September 26th with his family at his side. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 48 years, Gina Florini Race.
Born in Carbondale, son of the late Patrick and Dorothy Beahan Race, he was a member of Saint Rose Church, Carbondale. Skip was a 1963 graduate of Saint Rose High School and enlisted in the Air Force shortly after as an Airman 1st Class. Prior to his retirement, he was a transportation construction inspector for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 30 plus years. Skip was proud of his Irish heritage and was known for his quick Irish wit. He was also known to be the biggest Ford man in town and was inducted into the 1963-1972 Pocono Drag Lodge Hall Of Fame. Skip loved all animals, especially the many dogs rescued by him and his wife.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore for the caring, compassion, and comfort given to Skip and the family.
Also surviving are two daughters: Kimberly Race, Carbondale; Shannon Race and fiancé Joe Mikloiche, Browndale; a brother: Donald Race and wife Bonnie, Browndale; three grandchildren: Damian Hunter; Devan Race; and Cori Rogari; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter: Dawn; a brother: James; and a sister: Sharon Caviston.
The funeral will be Tuesday, September 30th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Friends may call at the church from 9 am until Mass time. Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.
