Peter Karwowski, Sr. Obituary

Peter J. Karwowski, Sr., 74, of Carbondale, died suddenly at home on Tuesday, December 27th.

Born in Honesdale, son of the late Peter F. and Marjorie Naizby Karwowski, he was a 1966 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a corrections officer at SCI Waymart.

For over four decades, Peter was a well known bowler throughout the Lackawanna Valley. He competed in many professional tournaments in the early 80’s, bowling perfect games and winning countless awards along the way. His passion for the sport was shared with his son, Peter, Jr.

Peter loved baseball and was an avid New York Mets fan. He spent over a decade umpiring Little League and coaching his daughter Janessa through her softball career. Peter also enjoyed playing pool and he looked forward to taking golf trips with close friends.

Surviving are a daughter: Janessa Karwowski, Wyoming; a son: Peter Karwowski, Jr., Forest City; three sisters: Kandy Karwowski, Orlando, FL; Theresa Lipko, Jacksonville, FL; Marjorie Karwowski, Jessup; three brothers: John, Mill Hall; Robert, Albany, GA; Barry, Jessup; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother: Paul and two sisters: Veronica Zielinski and Josephine Hollis.

As per Peter’s wishes, cremation was held and the interment of his ashes will be held in the spring at a date to be announced in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.
