Raymond Paul Mroz, 91, of Clifford Twp., died Monday December 20th at the Regional Hospital of Scranton. He is survived by his wife, the former Rosemarie Westgate Cobb; the couple had been married for 58 years.
Born in Susquehanna, son of the late Walenty and Mary Smolik Mroz, he was a member of Ascension Parish, Forest City. He was a graduate of Oakland High School, Class of 1948 and a 1955 graduate of the Ridley Business School, Binghamton. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, where he earned the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, the Purple Heart Medal with a bronze oak leaf cluster, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal. He was a 69 year member of the American Legion Post 86, Susquehanna and served as Post Commander for numerous terms. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8488, Lenox, as well as the DAV, Dickson City. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the United States Post Office, where he worked as a clerk at the Carbondale office. He was previously employed by the RCA Corporation and General Aniline & Film Corporation.
Also surviving are a daughter: Rosemarie Sears and husband Jonathan, Glen Burnie, MD; two step-sons: Fred J. Cobb and wife Donna, Clifford Twp.; Kevin J. Cobb and wife LuAnn, Clifford Twp.; a brother: Edward Mroz and wife Teresa, Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother: Joseph Mroz, Sr.; and a nephew: Joseph Mroz, Jr.
The funeral will be Monday December 27th from the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Joseph’s Church, Delaware St., Forest City. Interment with military honors will immediately follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. A viewing will be held on Sunday, from 2 to 5pm.
