Richard J. Miller, 86, a longtime resident of Forest City, died peacefully Saturday morning August 19th at Green Ridge Care Center, Scranton, where he was a resident for the last several years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, the former Marianna “Marion” Campone, in 2015. They married March 5, 1957, in St. Agnes Church, Forest City.
Born in New York City, son of the late George and Irene Grandcovski Flynn, he was educated in New York schools. Prior to retirement, he worked at Jerry's Sports Center, and you could also see his smiling face at his part-time job at Forest City Beverage, a job which he loved. He was a member of the former St. Agnes Church, now Ascension Parish, Forest City.
Anyone who crossed paths with Rich always left with a smile on their face; he had a way of making people laugh, right up until his last days. He enjoyed life, loved music (Rush was his favorite band). He loved the beach, making people laugh but, above all, his love for his wife Marion was the most special thing to him. He was a great father and grandfather, a hero to his entire family.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at both the Green Ridge Care Center and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their kindness and compassion.
He is survived by two daughter, Darlene Quigley and husband, Jeff Fehr, Long Island, N.Y.; and Laurie Brislin and husband, Kevin, Scott Twp.; two grandchildren, Amy Gardiner and husband, Joseph, Lighthouse Point, Fla.; and Kenneth Quigly, Jr. and wife, Tania, East Setauket, Long Island; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Derek Quigley; his sister, Phyllis Flynn, Forest City; his brother, Donald, Sunbury; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Jean Pearsall; and brothers, John and Robert.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held on Saturday September 2nd at the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City, with a blessing service at 2:30 pm. Friends may call from 1 to 4 pm that day.
