Richard R. Whitelavich, 69, of Carbondale, died Thursday March 18th at the Regional Hospital of Scranton from complications of COVID-19. He is survived by his wife, the former Vickie Borysiak.
Born in Mayfield, son of the late John E. and Anna B. Kozuch Whitelavich, he was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. He was a 1969 graduate of Lakeland High School. He was a veteran of the Pennsylvania National Guard, 109th Infantry division, having retired at the rank of Sergeant after a 26 year career. He later was employed by RCA/Thompson Consumer Electronics, Dunmore. He was currently employed as the Superintendent of Cemeteries at Saint Rose of Lima Parish/Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. He greatly enjoyed watching Westerns on TV and The Three Stooges. He was an avid Seattle Seahawks, Philadelphia Phillies and NASCAR fan. He always looked forward to “Thirsty Thursdays” and spending Sundays on the mountain.
Also surviving are sons: Richard Whitelavich and companion Renee, Carbondale; Bob Curtis and wife Angie, Carbondale; Marty Supeck and wife Jill, Childs; two daughters: Beth Whitelavich and wife Lauren, Carbondale; Amy Curtis and companion Jeff, Elk Lake; seven grandchildren: Katelyn and fiancé Jesse; Emily and companion Phillip; Megan and companion Brianna; Ronald; Carlie; Will; and Ben; a brother: John Whitelavich and wife Diane; aunts: Sophie Konish and Marci Cantwell; a sister-in-law: Mary O’Neill; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.
