Robert Gibson Obituary

Robert Niles Gibson, 96, of Greenfield Twp. and formerly of Union Dale, died Thursday February 25th at home.  He is survived by his wife, Helen Gibson.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Patricia Paye.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Frank and Eva Payne Gibson, he was a member and former trustee of the Union Dale United Methodist Church.  He was a graduate of Herrick Twp. School.  Robert was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Philippines, and he was a charter member of the Elk Mountain V.F.W. Post 848, Kingsley.  Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a meat cutter at his family’s business, Gibson Slaughterhouse, Union Dale, and later in several area grocery stores.  He was a member of the Union Dale Volunteer Fire Company and a former board member and caretaker of the Old Colonial Mausoleum, Union Dale.

Also surviving are four children: Diane Kilmer, Cape Coral, FL; Douglas Gibson, Wurtsboro, NY; Dawn Gibson, Fayetteville, NC; Dale Gibson and wife Geraldine, Slatehill, NY; four grandchildren: Vinne Gibson; Zackery Gibson; Jessica Spongberg and husband Jay; Robert Gibson; five great grandchildren: Ashley and Alexandra Gibson; Stacia, Liam, and Evan Spongberg.

He was also preceded in death by a son: Duane Gibson; and a daughter-in-law: Donna Marie Gibson.

Graveside services will be held Saturday May 1st, 2021 at 1:30 PM in Union Dale Cemetery.  Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
