Robert G. Lewis, Sr.

Robert G. Lewis, Sr., 85, of Carbondale, died Saturday June 1st.  He is survived by his wife, the former Lorraine Misner; the couple had been married for 62 years.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Arthur and Edna Poad Lewis, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale, where he was Head Usher and Past President of the Board of Trustees.  He was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and a veteran of the Pennsylvania National Guard, 109th Infantry.  He was a long time employee of the Gentex Corp., Simpson, working there from age 18 until retiring at age 75 as Maintenance Supervisor.   He was a 53 year member of the Andrew Mitchell Hose Co. #1, Carbondale, and a former Assistant Fire Chief for the Carbondale Fire Department.  He was an avid train buff, especially of the Delaware & Hudson Railroad; he also had a large toy train collection.  Bobby was a loving father and grandfather and was extremely proud of his grandson; he also adored his great granddaughters.  

Also surviving are his three children: Robert Lewis, Jr. and wife Patricia; Jennifer Lewis; Harley Lewis, all of Carbondale; a grandson: Robert Lewis and wife Kristy, Chapel Hill, NC; four great granddaughters: Charlotte, Abigail, Savannah, and Madison Lewis; sisters-in-law: Linda Galko; Patricia Calabro and husband Chip; and Cynthia Stephens; several nieces and nephews; and special neighbors: Mary Ann and Joanne Shaw.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Edgar and William Lewis; two sisters-in-law: LaVonne Misner and Nancy Becker; and three brothers-in-law: Anthony Galko; Robert Becker; and Robert Stephens.

The funeral will be Friday, June 7th with services at 10 am in the First United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St., Carbondale.  Interment, Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart.  Friends may call Thursday, from 3 to 6 pm at the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, and on Friday morning at the church from 9:30 am until service time.
