Robert J. Maguire, 77 of Carbondale, died Wednesday, November 6th at Allied Services Hospice, Scranton.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Charles and Vivian Kiernan Maguire, he was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Carbondale.   He was a graduate of Saint Rose High School, Carbondale.  Bob was a veteran of the Pennsylvania National Guard, where he attended radio school.  He used that training to start Maguire Electronics, to service televisions in the area including area hospitals.  Bob used his knowledge to expand his business into the paging service where he supplied radio paging services to most of the area hospitals, culminating in his assistance with the creation of the modern 911 system in Lackawanna County.  Bob served as the disaster chairman of the American Red Cross Carbondale/Forest City Chapter.  Bob was a classic car enthusiast and enjoyed his collection of antique cars, especially his Ford Thunderbird.  He loved and doted on his cat Sassy and was a big fan of Garfield and Disney. 

The family would like to give special thanks to Bob’s personal care staff who cared for Bob recently along with the Staff members of Allied Services Hospice Unit.

 Surviving are a brother: Thomas Maguire and wife Allison, Orlando, Florida; four nephews: Michael (Erin), Mark, Chris (Maria) and Paul (Marisa) Maguire; two nieces: Shannon Gagel and Kerry Hutmacher (Scott); and several great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by an older Brother, Michael in 2022.

The funeral will be Monday, November 11th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.  Friends may call Sunday, from 2 to 5 pm at the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc. 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale.  All those attending the funeral Monday are asked to go directly to the church.
