Robert M. Wasserman

Robert M. Wasserman, 84, of Carbondale, died on Friday, September 15th at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale after a brief illness.  His wife, the former Lizabeth “Betty” Opett, was by his side.  The couple had been married for 57 happy years.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Harry and Lillian Barnett Wasserman, he was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Scranton.  Prior to his retirement, he served as a high school teacher for the Carbondale Area School District for over 30 years, where he used his love of teaching and mathematics to educate generations of Carbondale residents.  He was always willing and happy to tutor any student in need of help, asking for nothing in return.  Outside of the classroom, he enjoyed playing cards and pool, bowling, running the clock at Chargers games, and discussing sports with his friends and brother, Louie, over coffee at Burger King.  His happiest moments were family gatherings, where he used his sense of humor to bring the party to life.  We will truly miss his laughter and the sparkle in his eyes as he looked around a room filled with his beloved family.  

Surviving are two daughters: Kimberly Cook and husband Joe, Carbondale; Lorie Angeloni and husband Michael, Peckville; a son: Brian Wasserman and partner Rosanna Cabatic, Northampton; four beautiful grandchildren: Dean and Nina Angeloni; Stephen and Thaddeus Wasserman; a brother: Louis Wasserman and wife Regina, Carbondale; a sister-in-law: Carol Wasserman, Traverse City, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son: Stephen Christopher Wasserman; and a brother: Ira Wasserman.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday September 26th from 4 to 7 pm at the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.
