Robert William Woods, Jr., 87, of Lynchburg, VA passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025. He was the husband of the late Ann Mariano Woods, with whom he shared 58 years of loving marriage.
Robert was born on December 12, 1938, in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Robert William Woods, Sr. and Mae Bartholomay Woods. Robert honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was retired as a Line Journeyman with Reynolds Metals. In subsequent years Robert ran his own construction company and worked as a kitchen and bath remodeling expert. He never met a kitchen layout which he could not improve. Robert was an active member of the American Legion Post 16 in Lynchburg and was very involved with the social club in past years. He was also often recognized as the unofficial mayor of his neighborhood for his ability to plan a gathering that brought the community together for shared memories.
He is survived by a daughter Diane Crouthamel (Shawn) of Bechtelsville, PA, two sons: Robert C. Woods (Sharon) of Wantage, NJ, and William M. Woods (Melanie) of Plainfield, IL, a sister Mary Beth Stroud (Joseph) of Easley, SC, a sister-in-law Janice Woods of Lynchburg, VA, four grandchildren, Michelle, Emma, Nicole, and Jocelyn, three step-grandchildren, Candice, Jaclyn, and Krysten, and two step great-grandchildren Angela and Mary. Robert will be remembered by all these people for his genuine love of his family. Most recently, Robert shared his home with his mischievous cat, Pumpkin, who has been adopted by a loving family member.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter Debra M. Woods, and a brother Carl Woods.
The funeral will be Saturday May 2nd with services at 11 am in Christ Episcopal Church, Delaware St., Forest City, to be celebrated by Rev. William McGinty. Interment will follow at Union Dale Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10:30 am until service time. Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
