Ronald W. Gilroy Obituary

Ronald W. Gilroy, 98, of Carbondale, died Wednesday June 12th at the Forest City Nursing Center.  His wife, the former Mildred McMahon died on November 8, 2009.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Roland Gilroy and Bonita Brydan Gilroy Wells, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carbondale. Ron attended Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and 72 years later received his High School Diploma from Carbondale Area High School in 2016.  He was a United States Army Veteran of WWII, having served in the Army Corp of Engineers, in the Pacific Theater; he was a member of the American Legion Post 221, Carbondale. Ronnie was an active member of the Andrew Mitchell Hose Co. #1, Carbondale, and the Carbondale Fire Police where he served as captain for many years.  He was also a former board member of the Pioneer Day Committee.  Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Gillen Coal Company.  He had also been employed as a driver for the Pizza Crust Company, Tuzze’s Trucking, the Lynch Bus Company, all of Carbondale, and the City of Carbondale Department of Public Works.  Ron enjoyed going for coffee at Dunkin Donuts.  He was also an avid collector of Lionel Trains and toy trucks.

The family would like to thank the nurse and staff of the Forest City Nursing Center for the outstanding care given to Ronnie.
Surviving are 3 daughters: Nancy Gilpin and husband Steve, Odessa, TX; Kathy Cosklo and husband Gene, Carbondale; Kim Johnson and husband Dennis, Factoryville; a son: Roland “Skip” Gilroy and wife Dalson, Cibolo, TX; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews .
He was also preceded in death by three daughters: Connie Daniels, Donna Kalasinski, Bonnie Agentovich; two sisters: Shirley Corrigan and Joyce Looney; two brothers: Robert and Frederick Gilroy; and his step-father: Milton Wells.

The funeral will be Saturday June 15th with services at 11 am in the Brennan and Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Friends may call Saturday from 9 am until service time.
