Rosemarie Murphy Pryle, of Carbondale, passed away on Sunday morning, July 28th, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Pryle Sr., who passed away in 2018.
The daughter of the late James E. and Romaine (Dugan) Murphy, Rosemarie was born and raised in Carbondale. She was a proud graduate of St. Rose High School and a lifelong parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Parish. Rosemarie began her career immediately after high school as a secretary for St. Rose Parish, a position she held for several years. After taking time to be at home with her young children, she returned to work as an office manager for Dr. R.C. Patel in Carbondale. She later worked as a clerk at Roemmelmeyers Men & Women’s Store. Rosemarie then spent 10 years at The University of Scranton, serving as a secretary in the Treasurer’s Office and later as the faculty secretary for the University’s History department, before retiring.
While she thoroughly enjoyed all of her outside work experiences and the people whom she met, her true calling and most enjoyable position was being an Irish mother to her immediate and extended family. She will be deeply missed as the family’s matriarch.
She was a current member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Her family extends our deepest appreciation to the doctors who cared for Rosemarie over the past few years, including most recently Dr. Neal Davis, Dr. Christopher Connor, and the nurses and aides of Compassionate Care Hospice. We are especially grateful for Rosie’s special caregivers, her niece, Jill Moran, and spouse, Mary Nemes.
She is survived by her sister, Frances McGlone, and husband, John, of Winchester, Va.; a son, William Jr., and wife, Amy, of Carbondale; a son, Timothy, and wife, Marilyn, of Clarks Green; a daughter, Karyn Salitsky, and husband, Robert, of Carbondale; a daughter, Megan Ruggiero, and husband, Judge Frank, of Greenfield Twp.; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Bettyann Moran, and brothers, James E. Murphy Jr., and Thomas Murphy.
The funeral will be Wednesday July 31st with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale. Interment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Twp.
Friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm at Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale. All are invited to go directly to the church on Wednesday morning. Visit the funeral home website for directions or to leave an online condolence.
