Sally Kane Obituary

Sally Kane, 87, of Carbondale, died peacefully at home on Sunday April 30th.

Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Hubert and Margaret States Griffin, she lived most of her life in Carbondale, graduating from Benjamin Franklin High School.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale.  Sally attended Marywood University while working full time and raising four children on her own.  She earned her Bachelor's Degree in 1974 and continued on for her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education.  She was employed by Head Start as a teacher for over 35 years until her retirement.  Her love and passion for working with children was evident to anyone who knew her.  She positively impacted the lives of hundreds of children during her tenure with Head Start.

Sally loved traveling to New Hampshire and the beach, first with her sisters and later with her daughters.  She honored her Irish heritage and loved to hear Seamus Kennedy whenever possible.  She played bingo for years and loved a good card game at family gatherings.  Her passing leaves a hole in our lives and our hearts, but her legacy will live on in every member of her large and loving family.

The family would like to thank Dr. Neal Davis and his staff for the compassionate care given to her for decades.

Surviving are her four children: Delores “Lori” Gaccione and husband Thomas; Joyce Comparetta and husband Arthur; Janice Winslow and husband Richard; Michael Kane and wife Jennifer; 10 grandchildren:  Jennifer Veina and husband Jason; Leslie Stefalo and husband Christopher; Hayley Baseski; Joseph "JT" Dolph; Zoe Nagle; Abby Comparetta; Emily Winslow; Elena Winslow; Maggie Kane; Paisley Kane; 6 great grandchildren:  Morgan Veina; Matthew Veina; Logan Baseski and wife Julia; Thomas Baseski; Liberty Stefalo; Rocco Stefalo; Two great great grandchildren: Grayson Farr; Alexander Farr; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers: Hubert, William, and James Griffin; and five sisters: Mary Allison; Margaret Griffin; Ann Hess; Kathleen Schemerhorn; and Julie Sejpal.

The funeral will be Friday May 5th in the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale with services at 10 am.  Interment will follow in Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart.  Friends may call Thursday, from 4 to 7 pm.
