Sandra Mitchell Obituary

Sandra Davis Mitchell, 90, of Carbondale, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late William Mitchell, who died December 22, 2010.

Born in Scranton on June 26, 1934, daughter of the late Mary Morgan Davis and Lewis Miller Davis, Sandra was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale.  She was a devoted wife who cared for her husband prior to his passing in 2010. During their time together, they enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends, especially their yearly family vacation trips to Oguinquit, Maine as well as her yearly trips to visit her son in Virginia to see the beautiful cherry blossoms. Sandra also enjoyed the time she spent with her closest friends shopping and going for walks together. Her children, grandchildren, and her great grandchildren brought so much joy to her life.

Sandra’s family would like to extend their utmost gratitude and appreciation to Celebration Villa Memory Care Unit, where Sandra was a resident since 2021; as well as Allied Services rehabilitation, where she most recently resided for a short time, the staff at Geisinger Community Medical Center and Allied Services Hospice for their care and compassion to Sandra and her family in her final days.

She is survived by a son: Eric Mitchell, and wife, Deborah of Oakton, VA; two daughters: Marcia Swanick, and husband Paul of Eliot, ME; Lynn Caines, and husband Glenn of Olyphant. Sandra is also survived by her three grandchildren: Paul Swanick (Aline); Kristina Aston (Richard); Matthew Mitchell (Ainslie); as well as two great grandchildren: Bryce and Wyatt Aston.
