Shirley R. Bensley, 91, of the Forest City Personal Care Home and formerly of Hop Bottom, passed away peacefully at Geisinger CMC on Thursday August 17th surrounded by family and her Pastor Madas. Her husband Eugene Bensley and Shirley were married for 69 years before he passed away in August 2020.
Born in Hop Bottom, daughter of the late William and Dorothy Carpenter Scott, she was a member of the Kingsley Community Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother who took care of her family. Shirley loved the Lord and was loved by all the staff at the Forest City Personal Care Home. Shirley loved living at the home, doing crafts, playing bingo and all the activities that they had to offer. She had many friends there and the staff was wonderful and very caring towards her. Her friends really enjoyed when she would play her big collection of Gaither Vocal Band CDs. The family appreciates all of the loving care provided to Shirley for the past four and a half years there.
Surviving are four daughters: Bonnie Cowden and husband Earle, Binghamton, NY; Gayle Steele, Carbondale; Patricia Berry, South Carolina; Kim Dragwa and husband Gary, Browndale; 4 grandchildren: Christina Raley; Christopher Cowden; Jason Sterling; Lindsey Dragwa; 4 great grandchildren: Brennan Cowden; Wyatt Raley; Rhylie Long; Aiyana Raley; one great great grandchild: Lilly Moon Raley and one on the way; two sisters: Joan Roberts Montrose; Marilyn Kilmer, Nicholson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers: William, Jake, James, and Larry; and five sisters: Barbara, Lois, Nancy, Rosalyn, and Linda; and a son-in-law: John Berry.
Funeral services will be held Friday August 25th at 11 am in the Kingsley Community Church, 9526 Main Street, Kingsley, to be celebrated by Rev. James P. Madas. Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
