Obituary

Taras Merza, 70, of Carbondale, died Saturday July  8th at Allied Services Hospice, Scranton.  He is survived by his wife, the former Janice Green; the couple would have been married for 51 years in September.

Born in Philadelphia, son of the late Michael and Natalie Keres Merza, he was a graduate of Central Adirondack High School, Bloomville, NY, and Mohawk Community College, Utica, NY.  He was a veteran of the United States Army.  He also served with the Pennsylvania National Guard, 109th Infantry, Company B.  Prior to his retirement, he was employed as the Chief Personnel Sergeant at Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville.

Also surviving are two sons: Andre Merza and wife Maisy, Fall Branch, TN; Joseph Merza and wife Devon, Marysville, WA; two grandchildren: Zarek and Anastazya Merza; two brothers: Peter Merza, Connecticut; Stanislaw Merza, Illinois; a sister: Sophie Jennings, New York; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a son: Michael Taras Merza.


Private funeral services will be held with arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.
