Obituary

Theodore J. “Ted” Kowalick, 94, of Forest City, died Friday February 24th at Geisinger CMC, Scranton.  His wife and the love of his life is the former Rose Gordon; Ted always told everyone how pretty she was.

Born in Forest City, son of the late Samuel and Justine Nowa Kowalick, he was a member of Saint John’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Forest City, where he served as a cantor for over 71 years.  For many years, Ted took care of church finances as well as many church affairs and the yearly dinner.  Prior to his retirement, he was an insurance salesman for over 20 years for the Home Life Insurance Company; he had previously worked at the Ames Shower Curtain Factory, Forest City.  Ted was very active in politics, having served as President of Forest City Borough Council for many years; he also served as mayor of Forest City Borough.  Ted also served the community for over 40 years as the Local Registrar for the Pennsylvania Department of Vital Records, having been appointed to the position by Representative Carmel Siriani. He was a former member of the Hillside Fire Company, Forest City.  Ted greatly enjoyed gardening, having planted a garden each spring for over 70 years.  He also loved to cook and looked forward to the weekly family dinners hosted at his house.  He enjoyed listening to the polkas, as well as sharing stories with families, friends, and everyone he met.

The family wishes to thank all those involved in Ted’s care over the years, especially Dr. Steven Voice and Dr. David Tomazic, and the staff and nurses of Geisinger CMC and the Forest City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Also surviving are two sons: Ted Kowalick, Clarks Green; Kenneth Kowalick and wife Denise, Vandling; two grandchildren: Nicholas and Kaitlyn Kowalick; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by five brothers: Andy, Nicholas, Michael, Stephen, and Sam; two sisters: Anne Levchak and Helen Popovich.

The funeral will be Wednesday March 1st with Liturgy at 10 am in Saint John’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 306 Susquehanna Street, Forest City, to be celebrated by Rev. John Cigan.  Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Forest City.  Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 6 pm at St. John’s Byzantine Church; Parastas services will be at 5:30 pm.  Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
