Thomas M. Chesnick, 91, of Vandling passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026. He was the husband of Carol Tusar Chesnick, with whom he shared 64 years of loving marriage.
Born in Vandling, son of the late Edward and Julia Korosec Chesnick, he graduated from Vandling High School and honorably served in the US Army. He furthered his education by attending the American Institute of Banking and the Mid-Atlantic PBA School of Trust. He retired as Vice President of Community Bank & Trust after working for Community and its predecessors for 47 years. Following retirement he continued to serve the bank as a member of its board of directors. He was very active in the community and served on the boards of Maxis Health Systems, the Forest City Area Volunteer Ambulance Association, Greater Forest City Industries, the Forest City Commercial Association, the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce, the Carbondale Industrial Development Corp., the Northern Tier Regional Planning and Development Commission, the Roman Catholic Churches of Forest City and the Rail-Trail Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
He loved working in the wood shop in his basement and building furniture pieces for the homes of his children and grandchildren. He also looked forward to annual fishing trips to Canada with his friends. His greatest joy, however, came from spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, to whom he was affectionately known as “Poppy”, and receiving FaceTime calls from those living out of the area.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Home Healthcare Professionals and Hospice who provided him with compassionate care at home during the last several months.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son: Thomas Chesnick and wife Kathryn of Clifford Township; his daughters: Karen Fitzsimmons of Browndale and Kim Baileys and her husband Thomas of Browndale; his grandchildren: Nicholas (Kristen), Marci (Anthony), Emily (Dom), Benjamin, Christopher, Patrick, Michael (Gretchen), Katie, Cullen and Maggie; and his great grandchildren: Chloe, Valerie, Nathan, Kateri, Santiago, Mariana, Henry, Bobby and Rosie. He is also survived by a brother: Lawrence Chesnick and his wife Patricia; and a sister-in-law: Barbara Fields and her husband Robert; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be remembered by all for his genuine love of family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Michael Fitzsimmons.
The funeral will be Saturday, March 28th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in Saint Joseph’s Church, Delaware Street, Forest City. Interment will follow at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, Forest City. Friends may call Saturday morning at the church from 10 am until mass time. Arrangements by the Jones and Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ascension Parish, 612 Hudson Street, Forest City, PA 18421.
