Thomas Richard Toolan, Jr., 83, of Carbondale, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 17th at Geisinger CMC, Scranton; he would have celebrated his 84th birthday on May 31st. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Mackrell; the couple would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September.
Born in Carbondale, son of the late Thomas Richard Toolan Sr. and Helen Sample Toolan, he was a graduate of Saint Rose High School, Carbondale. He was a veteran of the Pennsylvania National Guard and a member of the American Legion Post 610, Jermyn. During his career, Tom worked for Shulton Old Spice, Dearborn Glass, Hendricks Manufacturing, and Gentex. He then managed a Kayo Gas Station, and then retired from Specialty Records, Olyphant.
The family would like to thank the Carbondale Fire Department, Cottage Hose Ambulance Company, and the William Walker Ambulance Company for all of their efforts to aid Tom.
Also surviving are four daughters: Annmarie Kovaleski and husband Joseph; Susan Price and husband John; Maureen Martin and husband Jeffery; Karen Jones and husband Jeffery;10 grandchildren: Erin and Adam Kovaleski; John, Zackery, and Kayla Price; Jacquline, Elizabeth, and Jeffery Martin; Megan and Paige Jones; 7 great grandchildren: Aubrey; Lucas; Aria (due August 2022); Brice; Remedy; Deagan; Spencer; and Zander; a brother: Joseph Toolan, Johnson City, NY; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ann Toolan.
The funeral will be Thursday, with services at 9:30 am in the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale. Interment, Jermyn Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, from 4 to 6 pm.
