Vincent Gesiskie Obituary

Vincent J. Gesiskie, 91, of Waymart, died Thursday January 13th at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House, Palm Coast, FL.  He is survived by his wife and best friend of 66 years, the former Marge “Midge” Idason.

Born in Philadelphia, son of the late Bolie and Anna Budroe Gesiskie, he was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  He was a graduate of LaSalle High School, Philadelphia, and he attended LaSalle College, Philadelphia, and Marywood College, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration; he also earned his LPN and Nursing Home Administrator certificates.  He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, serving as a combat engineer. Prior to retirement, Vincent was employed as the Administrator of the Gesiskie Nursing Home, Waymart; he also worked as a case manager for the Wayne County Public Assistance Office.

Vincent was a proud father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle.  He was an ardent fan of his children’s and grandchildren’s sports endeavors that ranged from Western Wayne, Honesdale, Pleasant Valley, Mainland, FL, and Wooten, MD High Schools, Penn State, East Stroudsburg, Mount St. Mary’s, Albright, Wilkes, Kings College, and Rutgers.  Vincent was also an avid Philadelphia sports fan, golfer, and bowler.   Active in his community, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Mary’s Church, Waymart and the Western Wayne PTA, where he assisted with the food lunch program; he also served as a member of the Western Wayne School District Board of Education.

Also surviving are five children: Anne Heebner; John Gesiskie (Kathleen); Cathy Walker (Mark); Vincent Gesiskie, Jr.  (Tami); Maggie Smith (Dale); grandchildren: Josh Heebner (Jess); John Heebner (Lesley); Nikki Gesiskie; Jamie Negron (Chris); Jackie Gesiskie; Kallie Walker (Ethan); Kacie Byle (Taylor); Ellie, Grace, and Lily Gesiskie; Ryan Smith; Zach Smith (Sara); and Clayre Smith; great grandchildren: Kyla and Damon Heebner; Cole and Charlotte Negron; Charles Byle; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister: Catherine Gesiskie; and a brother: Philip Gesiskie.

The funeral will be Saturday January 29th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.  Spring interment, Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart.  Friends may call Friday from 2 pm to 6 pm at the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.  All those attending the funeral on Saturday are asked to go directly to the church.
