William "Bill" Harry Blank, Sr., 70, of Greenfield Twp., died suddenly at home on Thursday February 24th. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Jane Graziano.
Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Fred and Louise Owens Blank. He was a graduate of Lakeland High School. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served as a Bosun's Mate 1st class and proudly commissioned the USS Elmer Montgomery. While serving our country, Bill was able to travel the world and see many places such as France, Italy, and even reaching the Arctic Circle. Upon his return from service, Bill also served as constable and served a short time as a police officer for the township. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a steamfitter with the United Association Local 524 of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry, Scranton. Bill was an extremely hard worker and took great pride in his trade as a steamfitter which he performed with perfection.
Bill was a very active member of the Greenfield Township Volunteer Fire Company for well over 40 years, where he could often be heard signing on the air as Chief 24-C, driving his beloved Tanker 24. Bill was also a member of the American Legion Post 221, Carbondale. Bill enjoyed collecting guns, building models, making soppressata, and spending time with family and friends. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his pride and joy, his two grandchildren. He was very proud to be their "Poppy". Bill was a kind man with a big heart and was always there to help others, whether it be family, neighbors, the fire company, or the township. He will be greatly missed by everyone.
Also surviving are a son: William Blank, Jr. and wife Marisa, Peckville; two grandchildren: Sophia and Dominic Blank; a brother: David "Randy" Blank and wife Bev, Greenfield Twp., and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Larry and Fred “Bud” Blank; and a sister: Linda Blank.
The funeral will be Friday, March 4th in the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, with services at 11 am by Pastor Donald Perry. Spring interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Friends may call Thursday, from 3 to 7 pm. The family kindly asks that all those attending the services please wear a mask.
