William R. Miller, 76, of Waymart and formerly of Carbondale, went home to be with the Lord on Friday October 11th, after a brief illness, at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. He was surrounded by his wife of 52 years, the former Lois J. Edwards, his children and beloved grandchildren.
Born in Carbondale, son of the late Robert and Martha Miles Miller, he was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, class of 1966. Bill was a United States Navy veteran, having served 4 years aboard the USS Thomaston during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Tredegar Film Products in Carbondale for 30 years as a product analyst in their quality control department.
Bill loved serving the Lord and over the years was very active in the First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale as a Sunday School teacher, group leader, and served on both the Board of Deacons and Sessions over the years. After moving to Waymart, he became a member of the First Baptist Fellowship Church, Lake Ariel, where he continued to serve the Lord and enjoyed spending time with his church family. Bill took great pride in his home, where he enjoyed gardening and working in the yard. He volunteered his time as a baseball coach with the Carbondale little league when his boys were younger. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman and a New York Yankees fan, loved to read and travel, he especially loved to go on cruises. Most of all though, he loved his family and family gatherings. His five grandchildren were the light of his life, and he loved each of their visits.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Kondash, Michael Lukus, PA-C, and the doctors and nurses at GCMC/ICU for their compassionate care given to Bill.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Keith W. Miller, Carbondale, and Kyle T. Miller and his wife Stephanie, Carbondale; a daughter, Megan L. Doud and her husband David, Waymart; five grandchildren: Brianna Miller, Dakota Miller, Evan Miller, Addison and Colby Doud, a brother: Donald Miller and wife Mary, Carbondale; an aunt who was very special to him: Mary Miller of Easton; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
