William T. Murphy, 88, of Carbondale, died Tuesday May 14th. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Gladys Haynes, who died March 29, 2019.
Born in Carbondale, son of the late Thomas and Katherine Grady Murphy, he attended Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. He was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. He was a veteran of the Pennsylvania National Guard, 109th Infantry Division, where he received the PA National Guard Service Medal. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by the Gentex Corporation, Simpson. William was proud of his Irish heritage, never missing a chance to attend an Irish festival. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Gladys and going country line dancing with her.
Surviving are two daughters: Lisa Murphy, Browndale; Colleen Murphy, Browndale; three grandchildren: Sean, Shaina, and Shaymus Murphy; two brothers: George Murphy, Carbondale; Eugene Murphy, Clifton, NJ: and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a son: William Murphy, Jr.; and five siblings: Jack Murphy; Mary Murphy; Thomas Murphy, Jr.; Joseph Murphy; and Peggy Murphy Hagen.
The funeral will be Friday May 24th with graveside services at 1:30 pm in St. Thomas Cemetery, Archbald. Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.
