Winifred “Winnie” Rizner, 98, of Forest City, died Saturday July 26th at the Forest City Nursing Center.
Born in Ararat Twp., daughter of the late Benedict Slamas and Marijona Lencianskas Andzulis Slamas, she was a member of the former St. Anthony’s Church, now Ascension Parish, Forest City. She was a graduate of Thompson High School. Prior to retirement, she was employed as a union seamstress in several local garment factories and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers’ Union. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Post 221, Carbondale, and the Lithuanian Club, Forest City. Winnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, and doing taxidermy. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, making her homemade pierogies, a family favorite.
Surviving are a son: Kevin Rizner and wife Susie, Union Dale; a daughter: Mary Kay Wilczewski and husband Matthew, Browndale; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sons: William and Joseph Rizner; a granddaughter: Amanda Wilczewski; six brothers: Mitchell, William, and Albert Andzulis and Benjamin, Joseph and Victor Slamas; and four sisters: Eleanor Verboys, Roberta Studhalter, Anne Zelinski, and Helen May.
The funeral will be Wednesday July 30th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Joseph’s Church, Delaware Street, Forest City. Interment will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Forest City. Friends may call at the church Wednesday morning from 9 to 10 am. Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main Street, Forest City.
